Sonja Blomdahl has devoted her career to experimenting with abstract layers of color through the vehicle of the vessel. Although her vases have classical proportions, their forms are intentionally ahistorical; that is, they do not recall any specific historical shape. Blomdahl always works in incalmo, an Italian glassworking technique in which two or three bubbles of the same size are joined during the blowing process.
