John Hoare (born Ireland, 1822–1896), who was granted a patent for this design in 1891, called it the “Crystal City” pattern. The pattern features interlocking circles often associated with weddings, so it is sometimes called “Wedding Ring.” The curvature of the smooth, undecorated rings was extremely difficult to achieve, but creates a brilliant optical effect.
