Web Description: 
This cordial glass is from a set that was originally ordered for the White House by Mary Todd Lincoln and then reordered by several successive administrations. The glass is blown with an engraved presidential seal. Since 1989, the museum has had on loan from Kenneth and Sylvia Lyon a cordial glass from this service which has an engraved crest lacking the motto that appears on most of the set. Because of the missing crest, it must have been part of a later reorder. In 2005, the Museum acquired a cordial with the standard crest, and the Lyons donated the glass with the variant crest. The glass on the right is the gift of the Lyons.

Description

Primary Description: 
Cordial glass. Colorless lead glass; blown, cut and engraved. Blown glass with applied stem and foot. Cylindrical bowl with engraved dots just below sheared rim, engraved pattern of swags around sides and a shield with the United States eagle with olive branch and arrows inside; lower half of body cut in fine diamonds, stem cut in facets and flutes, foot cut underneath with a multi-pointed star ending in fans.
