Covered Goblet. Clear bubbly glass with deep greenish-amber tint; free-blown, cold-painted and gilded. (a) Conical foot with overfolded rim and rough pontil mark, large inverted baluster stem resting on a merese and surmounted by ribbed flattened knob on top of which there is another merese; very deep and high conical funnel bowl; (b) set-in domed cover with composite finial consisting of a ribbed flattened knop flanked by two spools and topped by a solid and stemmed ball knop; the cold-painted and gilded decoration consists of two large medallions bordered by green wreaths with blossoms and gilded collar-like motifs and enclosing two coats of arms; the one on the left consists of two identical half figures of men in red and gold holding in their right hands a gilded halberd; rich scroll, predominantly in purple and gold, at the center and lower portion around the cartouche of the lower figure; flanking the man on top are the initials: "C.L."; the coats of arms on the right consist of a rampant lion, on a red shield, turned to the left with the half figure apparently of a turned to the left with the half figure of a Black man flanked by two horns of an ox, on the left and right again scroll work; the colors of the second medallion are predominantly gold and red; the figure on top is flanked by the initials: "I.S.I."; between the two medallions the date in gold, "1617"; below, a tassel; above the date and continuing as a band around the vessel is a gilded frieze with arabesque-like motifs; a simple wreath around the vessel is a gilded frieze with arabesque-like motifs; a simple wreath around the shoulder of cover interrupted on the obverse by a floral motif flanked by two "I"-shaped motifs (H ?); the knop of the stem is gilded in the depressions.
