Colorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved. (a) Large thistle-shaped bowl tapered, straight sides, with cut, tapered rim inside, cut moldings outside; sides deeply engraved with scene depicting nude male (Bacchus) with raised arm, grapes & leaves in his hair & on his lap holding plate of grapes in right hand seated on elaborate car with high curved back decorated with polished scrolls, scrolled arms; flat platform at front with small wheel attended by 4 nude putti, one walking alongside carrying a staff with intertwined grape vine, one at other side playing Pan pipes; 2 pulling car toward nude female (Diana) lying on ground partly covered with loose drapery beneath tree draped with fabric; inside elaborately decorated with polished scrollwork; fabric tied to one branch in loose puff draped across 2 branches; 2 nude putti at left, one carrying bow and quiver of arrows, one with 2 tethered birds, one in tree, one flying toward a branch; a car with elaborately scrolled crest at left; landscape with large building in background to the right of Diana; heavy rounded bowl base with sharp cut ledge above band of relief-carved stylized acanthus leaves; cut stem with straight-sided disk above short cylinder of smaller diameter, another larger disk and bulbous knop with polished rounded vertical ribbing with hollow flutes below; spreading cut knop at base; sloping circular foot with band of relief-cut acanthus leaves and band of cut oval facets; diamond point (scratched) script signature on top edge of foot "Rossbach Fecit. Berlin"; polished pontil mark. (b) Domed circular shape; solid acorn-shaped finial with polished rounded top, curved band of relief-cut foliage, band of polished rounded vertical ribbing, band of hollow flutes below; cut spreading stem; band of relief-carved foliage around base of finial, band of polished oval facets; rounded sides with cut molding and tapered brim.
