Colorless, with yellow (goblet) and blue-gray (cover) tinge; cover has opalescent sheen. Blown, engraved in Hochschnitt. Goblet: conical bowl with rounded base; stem consists of inverted baluster between two flattened knops and mereses; blown foot has circle of overlapping acanthus leaves in bas-relief, and rough pontil mark. Stem, base, and rim of bowl, as well as cover and its finial, are ornamented with various acanthus motifs. Front of bowl shows portrait of Augustus the Strong, elector of Saxony and king of Poland, in profile, facing right, in oval cartouche framed by laurel wreath and trophies. To right of king, flag bearing Saxon eagle; to left, king’s monogram, “AR” (Augustus Rex). Reverse shows arms of Poland and Saxony, framed by leaf scrolls, with royal crown on top. On cover, two “AR” mirror monograms, and two pairs of eagles holding festoon in their beaks. Finial is in shape of crown; surmounting cross from imperial orb is lost.
