Primary Description:
Colorless, opaque white and blue probably non-lead glasses (with low lead content); blown, striped. Bulbous shape with waisted neck, pad feet, and hinged cover; the cover of domed form with broad, flat brim, encasing spiral stripes of opaque white glass alternating with stripes of opaque blue glass; polished concave pontil on top; mounted with stamped, gilded brass rim decorated with knurled edges and foliate scrolls on the sides; elaborate, cast scrolled thumbpiece attached at the back and to a rod in circular hinge mount, the face plate of the hinge with raised concentric rings, the hinge attached to the glass handle with pinned straps decorated with foliate scrolls; the body of the tankard with spiral opaque white and blue stripes matching those on the cover; the rim polished flat; waisted neck, compressed bulbous body, and flaring disk feet; applied loop handle enclosing two opaque white and two blue spiral stripes running throughout the lengths, the lower tip polished flat; the bottom of the feet polished flat, and with polished concave pontil mark; small oval tan paper label on the base pontil mark inscribed "27" in ink.
