The economic and artistic success of Bohemian colored glass from 1825 to 1850 led to the founding of many new glassworks. Loetz was one of these. Established in 1836, it was taken over in 1851 by Johann Loetz’s widow, Susannea. She renamed the firm Johann Loetz Witwe (Widow).

Vase, "Diaspora". Transparent pink and orange glass; mold-blown, cased, hot-worked, iridized. Small vase with a dimple in each side and an exaggerated ruffled rim. Decorated overall with open bubbles and iridized surface.
