Fragment of dish or bowl. Floor slopes very gently, then rises at center, with corresponding concavity on underside; traces of annular (?) pontil mark. Floor is covered with scratch-engraved ornament arranged in three concentric rings around central roundel. Outermost ring (of which very little survives) contains indeterminate motifs with transverse hatching. Outermost and second rings are separated by narrow undecorated band. Second ring (W. 2.7 cm) contains ring of contiguous arcs with double outline and cusps pointing outward; single deltoid leaf projects outward from each cusp; it has three lobes on each side and lobe at end, axial vein and transverse hatching on either side of vein; spaces between leaves are occupied by narrow oval motifs filled with zigzag lines; area beneath ring of arcs is hatched, except for one plain arc below each cusp. Second and innermost rings are separated by narrow undecorated band. Innermost ring contains continuous two-ply cable motif with hatched background. Inner ring and roundel are separated by narrow undecorated band. Roundel (D. 6.8 cm) contains hollow circle at center, from which radiate eight lanceolate motifs filled with zigzags; arcs with double outlines spring from tips of lanceolate motifs, with one plain arc outside each cusp and with one hatched quatrefoil in each space enclosed by arcs; area between arcs and edge of roundel is hatched.
