Large bowl with tapered, straight sides and rounded bottom; elaborately engraved decoration covering the bowl, with a bust-length portrait of a man wearing a long, curly wig, facing dexter; wearing armor, a bow tied at his shoulder; within an oval frame formed of bound laurel, tied with a ribbon; a crowned coat of arms (of Bavaria) at the bottom of the oval; a continuous landscape around the remainder of the bowl, with a large battle scene of mounted horsemen between large trees; a small city in the distance on two sides; inscribed "I W Schmidt/1690" in diamond point, to the right of the portrait frame; tall stem with multiple knopping: three mereses above a tubular section, three mereses, a hollow ball knop, three mereses, a tubular section, three mereses, a slender hollow inverted baluster, and three mereses at the base; large, circular foot with folded rim; rough pontil mark.
