Primary Description:
Colorless, non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved, gilt. Tapered, straight-sided bowl, with waisted section at the base; gilt rim; sides covered with elaborately engraved decoration: foliate scrolls set off several panels, each enclosing a scene of gardening, spinning, fabric weaving, etc., and with a large panel at the front decorated with elaborate buildings and a harbor, inscribed "Floreat Comercium" above; a tiny figure of Mercury carrying a pennant inscribed "Es gehe/wohl" on the reverse; relief-cut scrolls at the base of the bowl; stem composed of two mereses above a diamond-faceted ball, a straight section, a merese, and a spreading section at the base; polygonal faceted spreading foot, decorated with engraved triangles at the rim and cut ovals on the underside; no pontil mark.
