ARTIST STATEMENT: With my Album di Famiglia series I am reflecting on my childhood and trying to heal my own memories by modifying family photos. My grandparents, like most Argentineans, came from Europe. As they immigrated to Argentina looking for a better life, their children and grandchildren then emigrated to Europe during the dictatorship in a circular journey. In these photos my sister Bibi and I are at Plaza de Mayo feeding pigeons. The Plaza de Mayo has always been the focal point of political life in Buenos Aires. In the 50's Evita used to speak to the Argentinean people in Plaza de Mayo from the balcony of the Government House , at the beginning of the 70's we went to joying for the return of the democracy but In the same square some years later the mothers went for looking for their missing kids (Madres de Plaza de Mayo) during the dictatorship of Videla in 1976. The photograph is enlarged and printed on aluminum, then I apply fused glass over the images.The glass dresses alludes at the useful amours , the flowers with the nails to the unexpected danger and the shoes to the resilience that pushes us in walking across this world anyway . Looking at myself as a child I feel so lucky of being here right now and in a certain way I need to come back a this moment for closing a circle, attemptind for refresh my own glance in front of my history.
