Despret was an engineer and an expert in industrial glassmaking. Inside his factory, he kept a studio where he made artistic objects in pâte de verre. Despret was inspired by the discovery, in the 1870s, of hundreds of Hellenistic Greek terracotta figures at the ancient site of Tanagra, in Boeotia, and he made a series of them in glass.

Description

Primary Description: 
Varying shades of translucent to opaque blues; pate de verre technique. Statuette of a woman with a wrap draped around her shoulders (after the ancient Greek terracotta figures found at Tanagra). The top section is light blues shading to darker blues.
