Biography: Colin Reid

Colin Reid

Working in kiln-cast glass, Colin Reid uses various molding techniques to make the forms and molds in which he then casts his glass. He has achieved worldwide acclaim for his mastery of these techniques and polishing glass. His work commands attention through intriguing reflections and optical illusions within his sculptures. “A defining moment when I was studying glass was when I went out into the woods and fields with plaster and started casting what I found,” said Reid. “The extraordinary forms in nature are still the basis for much of my work in glass.”

Reid earned a BA from Stourbridge College of Art in 1981. Principally an exhibiting artist, he has also taught short courses widely over the years in Europe, Japan, Australia, and the United States. He has achieved several distinctions throughout his career, including being featured in several volumes of New Glass Review (Volumes 2, 3, 9, 13, and 32). His work is included in numerous public collections around the world including The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, The Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, Czech Republic, and The Corning Museum of Glass.
