Biography: Helen Stokes

Helen Stokes

Helen Stokes is a leading exponent of cast glass. Her work is remarkable for its finely-tuned detail and exquisite texture, yet the sculptural forms are strong and dynamic.

Stokes lives in Melbourne, Australia, and has worked with glass since 1978. She earned a post-graduate Diploma of Ceramic Design (majoring in glass) in 1995 at Monash University. She has developed the honeycomb mold technique, which produces a mold that does not crack at top temperature and allows flexibility in the mold as the glass is cooling. She has taught in Australia, Europe, and the United States.
