Susan Liebold

Susan Liebold began her work and studies in Germany at the Burg Giebichenstein - Hochschule für Kunst und Design in Halle. She has been an artist-in-residence at The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass and the Gewerbemuseum Art and Design College. Her studio is a former gasworks building in the Thuringian Forest.

Liebold often integrates her luminous flameworked pieces into the environment, at times placing them in a forest or field. She collaborates with biologists, chemists, and technicians to create her distinctive work. She experiments with borosilicate glasses as well as special glasses developed for her at the University of Jena and may incorporate video, LED, fluorescent glasses, or other light sources to create magical worlds. Her work is exhibited in Germany, Switzerland, Finland, and the United States.
