Tomo Sakai

Tomo Sakai graduated from Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan, with a specialization in glass. Sakai then studied glass engraving and coldworking in the Czech Republic, where she met her husband, glass designer Eric Cruze. They moved to the United States in 2009, and now have a studio in Massachusetts. Sakai was The Studio’s first coldworker-in-residence in the summer of 2016, assisting teachers and students with various projects in The Studio's cold shop. Sakai co-teaches regularly with Martin Rosol and other glass artists.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this residency has been postponed. Tomo will work with Emilio Santini as part of an Instructor Collaborative Residency at The Studio in 2021. For more information, visit our COVID-19 Health and Safety page
