Technique:
Kiln Working

Duration:
Two-Week Session

Nature is an endless source of inspiration. This will be a kiln-casting course engaging with nature and the immediate environment as a source of material, form, texture, and inspiration for casting in glass. We will work partly outdoors in nature using direct casting techniques to gather material to bring back into the studio and develop into works in glass.

Kiln casting can become bogged down in time-consuming and unnecessarily complicated technique. This class will aim to de-mystify it. Simple but effective casting and mold-making techniques will be shared, covering the basic techniques using wax, silicone, clay, plaster, and found materials, as well as firing, annealing, and basic cold work. This class is suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience wanting to develop their ideas and technique.
