Online Course: An Introduction to Venetian-Style Glassblowing

Classes

Date:
October 5 - December 7, 2020 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Season:
Fall
Technique:
Glassblowing
Level:
Intermediate
Duration:
Ten-Week Session

This ten-week online course will build a firm foundation in the understanding of Venetian-style glassblowing, focusing on well-formed and thinly blown vessel bodies, excellent necks, delicate mereses, and blown feet and stems. Both team-working and solo-working methods of furnace glassblowing will be taught, and each student will receive a blowhose included with the cost of tuition. Students will have a one-on-one online conference with William Gudenrath advance of the first class to assess their expectations and note special requests for instruction.

One year of glassblowing experience is required. As this is an online class, participants must have access to a hot shop and dedicated time to practice between classes. This is important as it enables students to apply the skills being introduced.

The class will be delivered via weekly video conferences that incorporate presentations, live demonstrations, and class discussions. Classes take place from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM EST. Students registered for this course should have a reliable internet connection during class hours and a computer or tablet that can support video and audio communication. All students will have an online orientation with Studio staff prior to October 5 to ensure connectivity. For more information, please contact The Studio at +1 (607) 438-5100 or [email protected].

If this class is full, please email your name and phone number to [email protected] to be added to the waitlist.
