Online Course: Making Your Mark With Murrini

June 9 - August 11, 2021 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Kiln Working and Cold Working
All Levels
Ten-Week Session

This ten-week online class is intended to teach students the basics of fusing with a focus on pattern making. Building upon the lessons of each previous week, students will accumulate the skills necessary to create pieces that encompass thoughtful composition, focus on pattern, and give attention to color. Pattern will be achieved by creating various styles of murrini created from sheet glass. Cutting and reassembling the murrini will open the doors of possibility for personal creativity. Coldworking techniques will be applied for shaping and straightening the glass and the fused pieces will be slumped into three dimensional molds to complete the process. Firing schedules will be discussed to give students a full understanding of the process. The class will have plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.

As this is an online class, students will be watching demonstrations and prepared lessons. They are encouraged to follow along with glass projects if they have access to their own supplies and a computer-controlled kiln. Otherwise, information, techniques and firing schedules can be gathered and applied later for future projects. All levels of experience are welcome.

The class will be delivered via weekly video conferences that incorporate live presentations and class discussions. Classes take place Wednesdays, 7–8:30 pm EST, beginning June 9, 2021. Students registered for this course should have a reliable internet connection during class hours and a computer or tablet that can support video and audio communication. All students will have an online orientation with Studio staff prior to June 9 to ensure connectivity. If this class is full, we encourage you to email your name and phone number to [email protected] to be added to the waiting list. For more information, please contact The Studio at +1 607.438.5100 or [email protected].
