Pull It Together! Sculpting the Bubble

May 1 - 2, 2021 9:00am to 4:00pm
Weekend Workshop

Sometimes adding glass bits to create a sculpture just doesn’t look right. Claire Kelly has dedicated years to developing her own approach to this problem to sculpt her unique glass animals. The result is a continuous form that moves smoothly over the surface.

This class will focus on sculpting the bubble on the pipe using various-sized torches and specialized tools. Students will come away with a good overview of using the hot torch to sculpt glass and a new approach for their ideas. This skill set will lend itself well to any glassblower that wants to add detail and texture to their work. Proper glassblowing skills will be an important focus and will establish a solid foundation on which to build your sculpture technique. Students in this class should have two or more years of experience working in a hot glass studio and be able to comfortably take two or more gathers of glass.

For the wellbeing of all students and staff, The Studio workshops have been modified, class capacity has been reduced, and sanitizing and social distancing protocols have been introduced. Detailed information about these measures can be found on The Studio Health and Safety page.
