Assistant Photographer

Provides photography and imaging support for the Museum’s Collections Photography Department utilizing the most current digital technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts post capture digital photographic images and scanned transparency files to accurately represent color and prepare for all online and print uses.
  • Performs 360º imaging capture and post-capture adjustment for Museum objects.
  • Photographs permanent and special exhibitions.
  • Assists with in-studio photographic lighting, set-ups, and image capture.
  • Performs condition report photography for outgoing loans.
  • Scans original collections materials using color management and current industry standards to ensure accurate reproduction.
  • Performs in-gallery documentation photography related to collection display and special exhibitions.
  • Assists with lighting of galleries and objects for permanent and special exhibitions.
  • Assists Conservation Department with photography for publications and documentation, as needed. Performs RTI imaging and other scientific imaging in conjunction with Conservators.
  • Calibrates monitors, printers and scanners within the Photography Department as needed.
  • Assists with other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in photography or digital imaging or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience in a museum setting preferred.
  • Respect and exemplify the values of the Corning Museum of Glass in all interactions with colleagues, staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Experience utilizing integrated color management workflows.
  • Extensive knowledge of current imaging software, image capture technology and practices and ability to master emerging technologies.
  • Significant experience in object photography, RTI, and photogrammetry desired
  • Ability to handle glass objects in a safe manner.
  • General familiarity with software including Microsoft Office Suite, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to represent the museum in a professional manner.
  • Some weekends and evenings required; flexibility in hours necessary.
