HR Operations and Employment Specialist

The HR Operations and Employment Specialist will organize and coordinate the Hire to Retire and HR operations activities for the Corning Museum of Glass (‘CMoG’).  S/he will provide high quality HR expertise and support, understanding what it means to anticipate and respond to needs, design and deliver HR processes, support daily HR operations, and assist with improving the efficiency of the HR department (including HR, Safety, Security, Volunteer and Internship Programs operations) through automation and process improvements.


Organize and coordinate the Hire to Retire and HR operations activities for the Corning Museum of Glass (‘CMoG’). Provide high quality HR expertise and support. Understand what it means to anticipate and respond to needs, design and deliver HR processes, and support daily HR operations. Assist with improving the efficiency of the HR department (including HR, Safety, Security, Volunteer and Internship Programs operations) through automation and process improvements. Enhance the employee experience.

Hire to Retire

  • Facilitate a great employee experience; act as a day-to-day HR partner; be the first point of contact for all staff regarding HR matters, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Support and amplify the Museum’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access and CMoG’s talent diversity strategy.
  • Identify process improvements and automation opportunities for HR activities throughout the employee life cycle.
  • Facilitate the consistent application of an efficient and defined recruitment process, organize resource documents, and make process improvements.
    • Coordinate all pre-employment requirements.
    • Support hiring teams and candidates by maintaining position descriptions, creating job posts, assisting with screenings and interviews, preparing offer letters, organizing background checks and drug screens.
    • Support relocation activities, when needed.
  • Assist in creating a contemporary and impactful onboarding program that goes well beyond the first day; monitor the program’s effectiveness and contribute to its ongoing improvements.
    • With the HR Benefits and Payroll Specialist, execute new employee onboarding activities including first day orientation; deliver an exceptional first-day experience.
    • Assist with scheduling of New Employee Group Orientation sessions, as needed.
  • Coordinate departing employee activities including exit interviews and prepare leaving documentation; deliver an exceptional last-day experience.
  • Support the performance management process; organize performance evaluation activities; maintain performance management documentation.
  • Create and manage employee files and other applicable documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state laws; certify I-9 compliance.
  • Manage the completion of five-year background checks for current staff in compliance with applicable insurance requirements.
  • Send required notifications alerting IT, Finance, Security and hiring managers of employee changes.
  • Send holiday calendar notifications to all staff annually and upon hire.
  • Provide HR support to the Rockwell Museum.

HR Systems, Data Management and Analytics

  • Aggregate, visualize and analyze HR-related data to improve HR processes, optimize workplace management and enhance the employee experience.
    • Design, generate, and distribute standard and custom HR reports.
    • Produce and maintain the HR dashboard to support regular reporting of talent, safety, security, volunteer and internship program related data.
    • Utilize analytics to construct the dashboard, produce and visualize data, and support the transformation of data into actionable insights.
    • Perform confidential research related to HR issues; compile and evaluate data and make recommendations.
  • Research and compile state and federal labor and employment law updates.
  • Deliver ADP system support, configuration updates, process reviews, and regular audits; maintain HR systems and tools to ensure data integrity about new hires, terminations and other activity.
  • Maintain and update organization charts and ensure accessibility to staff; create custom charts, as needed.

HR Operations

  • Provide administrative and project support to the Director of HR and Safety, Manager of HR Operations, and all HR department members, including safety, security, volunteer, and internship programs colleagues.
  • Support and complete ad-hoc projects, reporting, and tasks, as required.
  • Write, document and maintain HR department and position-specific procedures.
  • Assist in the review and update of the Employee Handbook.
  • Be the primary backup for the HR Benefits and Payroll Specialist in her/his absence, including the performance of bi-weekly timecard reviews, timely and accurate payroll processing and post-processing tasks.
  • Identify and upload new HR content for the internal and external CMoG websites; maintain and update content for the HR department pages.
    • Achieve and retain power-user status of CMoG’s intranet, as it relates to HR.
  • Assist in fulfilling employment verification inquiries and related documentation.
  • Maintain active and terminated employee paper-based and digital files; coordinate the record retention program including the master schedule, storage inventory, and facilitate the annual destruction.
  • Complete and file the annual EEO-1 report; maintain accurate EEO category coding in ADP.
  • Maintain legally compliant labor law postings in designated areas.
  • Coordinate the annual Manager on Duty process for peak season management coverage.


  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in HR.
  • Knowledge of and experience across a broad range of HR disciplines and practices.
  • Must uphold the highest level of ethical behavior and be fully committed to maintaining confidentiality; model the highest ethical standards within a diverse team environment.
  • Able to balance and be sensitive to employees’ issues and needs.
  • Appreciate cultural environments; interest in the arts and museums.
  • Familiarity with, and ability to understand and apply, employment and labor laws.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook); knowledge of SharePoint.
  • Strong proficiency with ADP Workforce Now or other human capital management (‘HCM’) software (SAP SuccessFactors, Workday, BambooHR, Ceridian, etc.)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, etc.).
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and tasks; resourceful mindset and flexible.
  • Focused on quality over speed; responsive and understands a sense of urgency.
  • Highly accurate, detail oriented and organized; focused on follow-up.
  • Capable of gathering and interpreting raw information and data, documenting findings, and drawing appropriate recommendations.
  • Natural interpersonal and communication skills; cultural awareness and demonstrates the values of diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to contribute within a team setting.
  • PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP or similar certification in HR.
