The mention of glass cups in Acharnes (The Acharnians, lines 72-74) is regarded as the earliest reference in literature to glass drinking vessels. In Nebulae (The Clouds, lines 765-771), Strepsiades and Socrates discuss the use of a burning glass. The burning glass is also discussed in the scholia.
