Drawing is for two green cut glass vases. Vase on left is round from one side view and flat from the other side view; it has alternating bands of crizzling and smooth with ridges. Vase on right is taller and nearly cynlindrical in shape; it has a checkerboard-like motif.
Drawing is on black construction paper.
"Aug. Herbst" -- written in white watercolor on lower right corner.
"8" -- written, and underlined, in red pencil on upper right corner of verso.
Herbst was one of Émile Gallé's collaborators, being principally employed in the furniture workshops in Nancy. He won a prize for his outstanding designs at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900.
This drawing was formerly Bib no. 52387, item 2.
