Watch with the Artist: Catherine Labonté

We're excited to introduce a new series on the channel! Since we can't bring you live streams at this time, we'll be hosting weekly Watch with the Artist live events. Join the featured artist in watching their past live stream, along with other Museum glassmakers, who will all be available on chat to answer your questions live. In this demonstration from 2019, Catherine unveiled a new, never-before-seen glass animal–a penguin–during a guest artist demonstration in the Amphitheater Hot Shop. This penguin, named Pierre, has since gone on to become a social media sensation in his ongoing adventures around The Corning Museum of Glass while it’s closed. If you’ve been following Pierre, this is a great opportunity to get to know more about the maker behind the penguin! And, if that wasn’t cool enough, the demo’s narrator and Museum gaffer Catherine Ayers will also be on hand to provide additional insights and perspective to viewers. Catherine Labonté lives and works in Montréal, and creates technically challenging cartoonish glass animals, which she hopes evoke laughter and wonder in viewers. Unable to watch the live event? Find hundreds of hours of live streamed demonstrations on the Corning Museum of Glass channel, and check back for new videos soon.
